DAYTON, Ohio — An Ohio man who admitted to trying to leave the country in 2018 to join was sentenced Wednesday by a federal judge to 10 years in prison. Naser Almadaoji, 23, an Iraqi-born United States citizen who was living in the Dayton suburb of Beavercreek, pleaded guilty in November 2021 to attempting to provide material support to foreign terrorist organizations just before his jury trial was scheduled to begin, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Ohio.
